Samsung C&T Construction Division announced on the 8th that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the inter-floor noise experimental building for research, technology development, and demonstration of inter-floor noise reduction.
The inter-floor noise research facility, scheduled to open in April next year, will be constructed in Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, covering a total floor area of 2,390㎡. With an investment of 10 billion KRW, it plans to establish 10 demonstration housing units for inter-floor noise verification research, as well as measurement rooms and experience rooms. It is the largest research facility dedicated solely to inter-floor noise research in the country.
This research facility features the application of all four structural types used in domestic apartment buildings, allowing comprehensive research and verification of the impact of inter-floor noise by structure type. The facility will apply four types of structural systems to the demonstration housing units: the commonly used wall-type structure, the frame-type structure composed of columns and beams, the column-type structure, and the mixed type (wall + column).
Until now, there has been no research facility applying all four methods, making it difficult to comprehensively study and verify the impact of inter-floor noise by each structure type. The facility also reflects the latest technology trends that reduce inter-floor noise by increasing the thickness of floor slabs. While existing research facilities could only verify performance for slab thicknesses of 150 to 210mm, the new facility will allow direct verification of the correlation between inter-floor noise and various slab thicknesses ranging from 210 to 300mm.
Samsung C&T plans to open the research facility to the public to accelerate the resolution of inter-floor noise issues. It will conduct research in collaboration with external partners such as the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, with plans to expand access to government research institutions in the future. An inter-floor noise experience room will also be operated to allow the general public to experience the research process.
