KT Launches 'Leased LTE Router' for Public Institutions and Enterprises
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] KT announced on the 8th that it will launch a ‘rental-type LTE router’ for public institutions and companies operating various equipment outdoors.
An LTE router is a device similar to an EGG that allows equipment installed outdoors, such as traffic signal controllers, water and sewage facilities, air quality measurement devices, electric vehicle charging stations, and elevators, to be easily and conveniently connected to the internet.
While personal EGG devices receive LTE signals and connect only wirelessly (Wi-Fi), KT’s LTE router supports both wireless and wired connections, enabling it to adapt to various environments. It also provides GPS functionality, allowing precise equipment operation linked with location information.
Until now, public institutions and corporate customers had to go through cumbersome processes such as purchasing equipment individually and activating it to use LTE routers. There were many customer complaints about inconveniences due to differences in installation quality and after-sales service (AS).
The rental-type LTE router service introduced by KT this time provides all necessary services for using LTE routers, including selection, customized installation according to the operation location, activation, AS, and a dedicated call center. Except for user negligence or previous installations, repair costs and travel expenses for equipment inspections are free. The company emphasized that operating costs can be significantly reduced even when using a large number of LTE routers.
For existing purchase-type LTE routers, it cost about 230,000 KRW to use the device purchase fee, installation fee, AS fee, and control service for one year, but by using the rental-type LTE router service, the annual cost is 125,000 KRW, resulting in about a 45% cost reduction.
The installation fee (20,000 KRW) is fully waived when subscribing to the IoT77 plan with a monthly fee of 7,700 KRW for more than one year. Also, when subscribing to the IoT77 or higher plan with a three-year contract, customers can receive a free equipment rental benefit.
