80 Listed Companies Changed Names in First Half, Up 46%... Korea & Company, CloudAir, etc.
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] The total number of listed companies that changed their trade names in the first half of this year reached 80, marking a 45.5% increase (25 companies) compared to the same period last year (55 companies).
According to the Korea Securities Depository on the 6th, 27 companies in the KOSPI market changed their names in the first half, an increase of 9 companies compared to the same period last year (18 companies). In the KOSDAQ market, 53 companies changed their trade names, up by 16 companies from 37 in the same period last year.
The status over the past five years was 106 companies in 2017, 80 companies in 2018, 95 companies in 2019, and 95 companies last year. After a decrease in 2018, the trend is increasing again.
The main reason for the trade name changes in the first half of this year was "enhancing company image," accounting for 50 companies (45.9%). This was followed by "business diversification" with 34 companies (31.2%), "company split/merger" with 15 companies (13.8%), and "improving management objectives and strategies" with 8 companies (7.3%). Other reasons included changes in major shareholders and incorporation into affiliates.
