On the 29th (local time), the New York Consulate General (Consul General Jang Won-sam) announced that quarantine exemption certificates for those scheduled to depart on the 1st and 2nd of next month will be sent out at 11 a.m. on the 30th (Korean time, midnight on July 1). Departing travelers must print four copies of the exemption certificate and submit them upon entry to Korea.
The New York Consulate General is also issuing quarantine exemption certificates to Korean residents in the Philadelphia branch office area, which was recently established, with all consulate staff fully committed to supporting Koreans’ visits to Korea.
On the first day of acceptance, the 28th, the New York Consulate General received over 1,000 applications, the highest number among U.S. diplomatic missions. On the second day, the 29th, hundreds more applications were submitted. The New York Consulate General will process applications and issue certificates sequentially according to departure schedules.
The Los Angeles Consulate General, where the largest number of Korean residents in the U.S. live, plans to accept applications via email as well as in-person visits. In-person processing is available only to those with prior reservations.
The LA Consulate General is accepting email applications regardless of departure schedules, so applicants with earlier departure dates are anxiously awaiting results. On the first day, 700 applications were received at the LA Consulate General.
According to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the U.S., on the first day of applications, the 28th, approximately 5,000 quarantine exemption applications were received across the embassy, nine consulates general, and three branch offices in the Americas.
