North-South Art and Photography Exhibition Held in Suwon... Nationwide Touring Exhibition Also Scheduled
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The South-North art and photo exhibition "Promise," which hopes for the implementation of inter-Korean agreements, will be held in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
On the 28th, Suwon City announced that from the 29th of this month to the 18th of next month, it will jointly hold an art and photo exhibition with the National Council of Local Governments for Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation and the South-North Economic and Cultural Cooperation Foundation at the Suwon City I-Park Museum of Art. The exhibition will feature the 6.15 South-North Joint Declaration (2000), the 10.4 Declaration (2007), the 4.27 Panmunjom Declaration (2018), and the September Pyongyang Joint Declaration (2018), showcasing promises and friendship between the two Koreas.
Professor Park Gye-ri of the National Institute for Unification Education is the general planner of this event, which is composed of four themes: ▲ Meeting of Baekdu Mountain and Hallasan ▲ Friendship ▲ Promise Archive ▲ Future That Came First.
The exhibition will display works by 23 South and North Korean artists. Notably, 10 works by professors from Pyongyang University of Fine Arts in the North will be revealed for the first time in South Korea, drawing attention.
Looking in detail at the four themes, "Meeting of Baekdu Mountain and Hallasan" features works by Pyongyang University of Fine Arts professors Kang Hoon-young, Jung Hyun-il, and Park Dong-geol, who painted Baekdu Mountain and Heaven Lake, alongside domestic artists Yoo Soo, Lim Ok-sang, Jeon Young-kyung, and Jung Jung-yeop, who painted Hallasan and Baengnokdam.
"Friendship" is a project by musician Choi Goeun, who created songs based on conversations shared with people on Instagram Live under the theme of "Friendship." During the event, Choi will continue a project to create new songs on the theme of "Friendship."
"Promise Archive" is an archive composed by artist Lee Bu-rok, containing materials, photos, videos, and gifts related to the 6.15 South-North Joint Declaration, the 10.4 Declaration, the 4.27 Panmunjom Declaration, and the September Pyongyang Joint Declaration.
The "Future That Came First" section proposes a vision of a Korean Peninsula community shared by the South and North.
Visitors can see "Along the Mountain Range" (Collective9229's work), an installation and painting expressing a virtual journey to the North, and "Chandelier" (Muunim Community's work), made from products produced by companies located in the Kaesong Industrial Complex, wishing for a new start of the South-North economic community.
There will also be an instant photo booth called "Meeting Our Land Future Memory Photo Studio" and a two-channel video work featuring performances on the North Korean gayageum and harp.
This "Promise" photo exhibition will start at the Suwon City I-Park Museum of Art and then tour cities nationwide.
Yeom Tae-young, the standing representative of the National Council of Local Governments for Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation, expressed at the "Restarting the Implementation of Inter-Korean Agreements Forum" held on the 21st, "I hope the exhibition 'Promise' will soon be co-hosted in Pyongyang."

At the forum, Lim Jong-seok, chairman of the South-North Economic and Cultural Cooperation Foundation, also proposed to the North, "Let's jointly host exhibition events in New York, USA, Berlin, Germany, and Beijing, China before the Beijing Winter Olympics in February next year."
