From Purchase to Receipt Inside the Car... Renault Samsung XM3 Launches 'In-Car Payment'
Introducing In-Car Payment Service in the 2022 XM3 Model
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Renault Samsung Motors announced on the 11th that it will be the first in the industry to offer the simple payment system 'In-Car Payment,' which allows customers to complete purchases and receive products entirely within the vehicle.
Renault Samsung previously signed a business agreement with mobility commerce platform startup Owin and launched the In-Car Payment service on the 2022 XM3 model released earlier this month.
Accordingly, XM3 customers can use this service to order and pay for products sold at convenience stores, gas stations, cafes, and restaurants from inside their vehicles. Notably, Renault Samsung's In-Car Payment is the first in Korea to enable payment and product pickup for food and beverages directly from the vehicle, providing a more advanced contactless service.
For convenience stores, starting in July, In-Car Payment will be available at over 1,000 CU convenience stores nationwide. Customers can select convenience store products available for purchase from their vehicle and, after payment, receive the items without having to get out of the car upon arrival at the store. Renault Samsung plans to continuously expand the number of convenience stores and product types available for ordering via In-Car Payment.
In addition, In-Car Payment can be used at 380 GS Caltex gas stations nationwide. After selecting the fuel type and completing payment, there is no need to pre-select the pump number, as the vehicle and pump communicate fuel volume and payment information wirelessly. Existing systems from other companies require pre-input of a specific pump number and restrict use to that pump, causing inconvenience. Renault Samsung plans to expand the number of participating gas stations by the end of the year.
Renault Samsung also plans to expand cafes and restaurants where customers can order and receive products inside the vehicle, and intends to continuously broaden the scope of In-Car Payment services to include parking payments and electric vehicle charging payments.
