Approval Rating Enters 5% Range for the First Time, Park Yong-jin Says "Will Create a Great Earthquake and Great Transformation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Recently breaking the 5% support rate barrier in public opinion polls and overtaking former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun within the margin of error, Park Yong-jin, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 10th, "If the opponent brings out a new commander, a new figure, we must also bring out a new commander and a new figure, and if the opponent comes out with a new formation, we must respond with a new formation as well. Otherwise, we will sit and lose."
After a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office on the same day, Park met with reporters and commented on the recent poll results, saying, "The public was already hoping for a challenge from a new figure within the Democratic Party who could embrace the national will and hope," emphasizing, "With obvious figures, obvious structures, and obvious formations, we will lose."
Earlier, in a poll conducted by Hangil Research commissioned by Cookie News from January 5 to 7 targeting 1,001 adults, Park recorded 5.3% support as a potential next presidential candidate for the Democratic Party. He ranked third behind Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung (29.9%) and former party leader Lee Nak-yeon (11.5%), and his figure was higher than former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun and former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, who both recorded 4.6%.

Park said, "'Do you have a faction? Do you have a strong supporter?' That is a very old-fashioned rule. I have been doing it that way, and Lee Jun-seok is doing the same. That was the image the public wanted," adding, "Polls will fluctuate in the future, but looking from January when I expressed my intention to run, the numbers are rising. Therefore, I must continue to respond to the public's hopes and demands and create a great upheaval and earthquake within the Democratic Party."
