Passenger Jumps from Busan ~ Jeju Ferry, Coast Guard Searching
Approximately 11km offshore west of Ganyeoam, Yeosu City
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Kyung-taek] A passenger who was on a ferry sailing from Busan to Jeju jumped into the sea about 11km west of Ganyeoam, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, and the coast guard is conducting a search using patrol vessels.
According to the Yeosu Coast Guard, at around 7 a.m. on the 10th, a report was received at the Jeju Coast Guard Situation Room that luggage belonging to a passenger was found in the third-class section of a 9,900-ton ferry that departed from Busan and arrived at Jeju Port around 6 a.m. that day.
Upon reviewing the ferry's CCTV, the coast guard confirmed that at approximately 00:46 a.m. today, Mr. A (26 years old) jumped into the sea from the port side center of the ferry.
The Yeosu Coast Guard identified the time of Mr. A's sea jump and, after confirming the ferry's track, determined the location to be about 11km west of Ganyeoam, Yeosu-si. Four patrol vessels were dispatched to the nearby waters for an intensive search.

A Yeosu Coast Guard official stated, "We plan to conduct a wide-area search around the accident site using the drift prediction system, and we are sharing the accident situation with ships navigating nearby to request their cooperation."
