Jung Jin-seok: "Yoon's mother-in-law's '10 won coin' remark was distorted"... Jung Cheong-rae criticizes it as a "10 won shield"
Jeong Cheong-rae "Flattery to cling to power, a trivial life"
"Isn't it shameful for someone with five terms?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] "Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol said, 'My mother-in-law has never caused even a 10-won loss to anyone,'" and in response to this statement made by People Power Party lawmaker Jeong Jin-seok, who later explained that "it was a casual remark made in private that was distorted," Jeong Cheong-rae of the Democratic Party strongly criticized it as a "10-won excuse."
On the 10th, Jeong Cheong-rae wrote on his Facebook, "If Jeong Jin-seok boasted about meeting Yoon Seok-yeol and defended words he never said, that is a 10-won shield," criticizing him in this way.
He continued, "If Yoon Seok-yeol really made a 10-won remark and now claims it was distorted, that is a 10-won lie," adding, "If he says he was scolded a lot by former Prosecutor General Yoon for the 10-won remark and that it was distorted, that is a 10-won flattery trying to curry favor with power and a petty 10-won life," repeatedly pointing out.
He then asked, "You are a five-term lawmaker, aren't you petty and ashamed?"
Earlier, on the 26th of last month, after meeting with former Prosecutor General Yoon, Jeong Jin-seok mentioned at a meeting with reporters earlier this month, "Yoon said, 'My mother-in-law, who is in business, has been defrauded before but has never caused even a 10-won loss to anyone,'" and added, "Yoon seemed confident regarding the family-in-law issue."
Regarding Jeong Jin-seok's remarks, the ruling party poured criticism calling it 'double standards.'
Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Nam-guk wrote on Facebook on the 2nd, "He is endlessly lenient toward the allegations against (former Prosecutor General) Yoon's mother-in-law," and questioned, "Is this the fairness and justice Yoon Seok-yeol talks about?"
He continued, "Yoon's mother-in-law was indicted on charges of illegally opening a nursing hospital and fraudulently receiving over 2.2 billion won in nursing care benefits from the National Health Insurance Corporation," adding, "Since mother-in-law Choi denies the charges, we should wait for the trial results, but given that she is indicted and on trial for such a serious crime, it is questionable whether it is appropriate to say 'My mother-in-law has never caused even a 10-won loss to anyone.'"
Amid growing controversy, on the 10th, Jeong Jin-seok explained to 'Yonhap News,' "The remarks made by former Prosecutor General Yoon were casual comments shared while drinking with friends in private, and as someone who is usually press-friendly, I conveyed them to reporters, but the expression was distorted."
He further explained, "Yoon meant that, to the best of his knowledge, regardless of the guilt or innocence of the case, the mother-in-law's case did not cause financial damage to the parties involved."
