[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) will conduct an 'Online English Fairy Tale Mentoring' program from July 9 to August 13 to support a lively summer vacation for local children and adolescents despite COVID-19.
The 'Online English Fairy Tale Mentoring' program allows local senior and junior students to meet in real-time video calls in 1:1 or 1:2 formats to read English fairy tale books and engage in post-reading activities.
English fairy tale books will be distributed free of charge in advance to both mentors and mentees.
A total of 28 mentors will participate, including 2 'Geumcheon-gu 2021 Summer Vacation University Student Part-timers,' 10 'high school student volunteers linked with the 1365 Nanum Portal,' and 16 middle school students who are members of the local middle school English newspaper club 'TIMES.'
The mentoring targets 122 elementary to middle school students, and online registration will be accepted from 10 a.m. on June 14 through the Geumcheon-gu Office website's integrated reservation service.
The English fairy tale books, which are the materials needed for the activities, can be picked up at the main gate of Seoul Siheung Elementary School starting at 9 a.m. on June 24 via a drive-through/walk-through method.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "Fairy tale books serve as a medium to meet world-renowned illustrators and authors. Through the English fairy tale mentoring activities, we hope children and adolescents grow into global talents equipped with humanistic qualities and social skills."
