Uijeongbu-si Bypasses Crackdown on 'Real Doll Experience Rooms'... Businesses Remove Signs and Close Down
Notification of Illegal Sign Confirmation and Voluntary Removal Request
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province recently ordered the suspension of operations for a real doll experience room located in Minrak-dong, which had become a subject of controversy. It is reported that the business voluntarily removed its signboard and closed down.
According to the city on the 9th, the day after a large signboard for the real doll experience room was installed on the 25th of last month, the city confirmed that the signboard was illegal and issued a notice for voluntary removal. Subsequently, the illegal signboard was taken down on the 7th.
Regarding this matter, the city stated, "While the real doll incident that caused controversy in other regions was addressed only by enforcing the Educational Environment Protection Zone (within 200 meters of school boundaries), we considered the many youth facilities nearby and reviewed the legal violations from multiple angles through legal counsel."
They added, "The Permit and Safety Division and the Education and Youth Division held several meetings with the business owner, and continuous recommendations to remove the signboard appear to have led to pressure to suspend operations, which seems to be the direct cause of the closure."
