520 New COVID-19 Cases Nationwide by 9 PM... Expected to Remain in the High 500s
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] From midnight to 9 p.m. on the 5th, the number of new COVID-19 cases nationwide was recorded at 520. This is 178 fewer than the 698 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
By region, the metropolitan area accounted for 347 cases (66.7%), and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 173 cases (33.3%). The breakdown is as follows: Seoul 174, Gyeonggi 150, Daegu 44, Incheon 23, Busan 20, Daejeon 18, Jeju 15, Chungbuk 13, Gyeongnam and Chungnam 12 each, Gyeongbuk and Gangwon 10 each, Ulsan 7, Jeonbuk and Jeonnam 5 each, and Gwangju 2.
Since there is still time left until the final tally, the number of new cases announced as of midnight on the 6th is expected to increase further, reaching the high 500s. The previous day saw an increase of 43 cases after 9 p.m., closing at a final count of 744.
Although the number of confirmed cases decreased compared to the previous day, this is due to a reduction in testing over the weekend, so it is difficult to say that the spread has slowed. Recently, nationwide cluster infections have continued, and daily confirmed cases have fluctuated between 400 and 700. From the 30th of last month to today, the number of new cases over the past week was 480 → 430 → 459 → 677 → 681 → 695 → 744, with a daily average of 595.
Looking at major infection cases, in the metropolitan area, 29 people were confirmed positive related to a construction site in Jung-gu, Seoul. Twelve people were confirmed at an indoor sports facility in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, and 16 people were confirmed at a child protection facility.

In non-metropolitan areas, 12 people were infected related to a club meeting in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, and 10 people were infected related to a workplace in Gangseo-gu, Busan. Six additional cases related to a hot spring bath in Asan were reported in Cheonan and Asan, Chungnam, and confirmed cases related to entertainment bars are increasing in Gimhae and Yangsan, Gyeongnam.
