"Travel Demand Increases and Choice of Jeju Trips Rises Significantly"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Last month, Jeju emerged as the top accommodation booking destination on the online shopping mall TMON.
TMON announced on the 5th that, after analyzing accommodation booking trends by region throughout May, Jeju ranked first with a 31% share. This figure represents an 11 percentage point increase compared to last year. In May of last year, the most booked accommodation destination was Gyeonggi Province (23%).
Airfare bookings to Jeju for departures in May also increased by 76% compared to the same period last year. Bookings for June departures rose by 110%, confirming a significant increase in travelers choosing Jeju.
The Gyeongsang region, along with Gyeonggi and Gangwon, accounted for 15% of total accommodation bookings, tying for second place. Regions with lower accommodation booking rates this year included Incheon (4%), Busan (4%), and Seoul (3%).
Regarding accommodation types, one out of every two people chose hotels overall, but there were regional differences. In Seoul, Busan, and Jeju, the hotel accommodation rate was as high as an average of 89%. In contrast, Gyeonggi (83%), Chungcheong (79%), and Gyeongsang (69%) showed a predominance of pension accommodations.

A TMON representative stated, "As travel demand has recently revived, the number of travelers is increasing, especially centered around Jeju," adding, "We are making efforts to encourage safe travel by displaying guidelines such as quarantine measures on product pages."
