Police Request Arrest Warrant for Jeong Chan-min, People Power Party Lawmaker, on Bribery Charges
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The police have requested a pre-arrest warrant for Jeong Chan-min, a member of the People Power Party, who has been suspected of bribery during his tenure as mayor of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
The Government Joint Special Investigation Headquarters (Special Investigation Headquarters), which is investigating real estate speculation allegations, announced on the 3rd that it had applied for an arrest warrant for Jeong on the 1st of this month on charges of bribery.
Jeong is accused of accepting bribes related to development permits in the Giheung District of Yongin from 2014 to 2018, during his time as mayor of Yongin. The police obtained related intelligence and conducted raids on Yongin City Hall and Giheung District Office in February to secure evidence and have been conducting investigations.

Jeong is one of 13 current lawmakers under investigation by the Special Investigation Headquarters. This is the first time the police have requested an arrest warrant for a sitting member of the National Assembly.
