The ‘Cass Beer Lees Upcycling Food Festival’ is an event where participants can directly experience foods made from beer lees generated during the Cass beer brewing process. It was planned to promote ‘beer lees upcycling’ as an eco-friendly project that reduces carbon footprints. By utilizing byproducts generated during beer production, it can suppress carbon emissions caused by crops and landfill.
OB Beer and Reharvest showcased various menu items made from Cass beer lees, including lasagna, pizza, chicken tenders, egg tarts, madeleines, yakgwa, ice cream, and beer latte, confirming the potential for beer lees to be used in diverse food and beverage products.
In particular, OB Beer employees participated in reducing disposable products on Environment Day by bringing their own containers to enjoy various upcycled foods. OB Beer and Reharvest plan to expand the ‘Cass Beer Lees Upcycling Food Festival’ to an event for general consumers in the future.
Reharvest, a food-specialized startup and a partner of OB Beer, participated in this event as a sponsor. Reharvest is a startup that upcycles byproducts generated during food manufacturing processes to create eco-friendly foods and generates social value by involving vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities in the product inspection process. OB Beer signed a win-win cooperation agreement with them at the end of last year and is jointly developing various foods using beer byproducts.
