'Steve Yoo Visa Issuance' Second Administrative Lawsuit First Hearing Today
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Steve Seungjun Yu's second administrative lawsuit in response to the South Korean government's visa issuance refusal will begin on the 3rd.
The Seoul Administrative Court, Administrative Division 5 (Chief Judge Sangkyu Jeong), will hold the first hearing for Yu's lawsuit requesting the cancellation of the passport and visa issuance refusal filed against the Consulate General in Los Angeles (LA). Since administrative lawsuits can be heard without the parties' attendance, representatives from both sides are expected to appear in court on their behalf.

Yu, who was restricted from entering the country in 2002 due to controversy over military service evasion, applied in 2015, thirteen years later, for entry with an overseas Korean visa but was refused. He filed a lawsuit once and ultimately won at the Supreme Court two years ago. However, the LA Consulate General did not issue the visa even after the Supreme Court ruling. The Supreme Court ruling only stated that proper procedures were not followed during the visa issuance refusal process, not that a visa must be issued. Consequently, Yu filed another lawsuit.
