Jeonnam Fire Department to Firmly Control Flood Damage This Summer
Preparation of 'Comprehensive Emergency Rescue Measures' for Typhoons, Heavy Rainfall, and Other Wind and Water Disasters
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 2nd that it has prepared and is implementing a comprehensive emergency rescue plan to prepare for typhoons and heavy rains during the summer season.
This summer's rainfall is expected to be similar to the average year, but localized heavy rains are anticipated, and the possibility of typhoon occurrence is high due to rising average water temperatures.
Accordingly, the Fire Headquarters is focusing on managing areas vulnerable to human casualties by disaster type and establishing a preemptive response system, including emergency duty systems according to weather warning stages.
In cooperation with related organizations such as the Yeongsangang Flood Control Office and Korea Water Resources Corporation, they plan to share various information such as dam discharge to conduct patrols and evacuation activities in vulnerable areas in advance.
In particular, this year, the budget was increased by 430 million won to prepare for natural disasters.
They reinforced 156 items of 13 types of rescue boats and other equipment, bringing the total to 480 items of 26 types of water rescue equipment. To ensure rapid fire force support in case of an incident, on-site firefighting equipment inspections are conducted to maintain 100% operational status.
Last year, the Jeonnam region suffered significant damage in Gurye, Naju, and Damyang due to the longest rainy season and typhoons with heavy rains on record.
A total of 1,631 firefighting activities were carried out, including rescuing 731 people, safety measures such as removing soil and fallen rocks in 953 cases, and water supply and drainage support at 442 locations.
