Rapper C Jamm, Involved in 'Club Assault', Receives Reduced Fine in Appeal Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Rapper C Jamm (real name Ryu Seongmin, 28), who was prosecuted for hitting another customer's face at a club, received a reduced sentence of a fine in the appellate court.
According to the legal community on the 1st, the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Appeal Division 2 (Chief Judge Bu Sangjun) overturned the original verdict and sentenced C Jamm, who was prosecuted for assault, to a fine of 5 million won on the 27th of last month.
In the first trial last September, the court sentenced him to 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation and ordered 120 hours of community service, considering "the defendant's prior suspended sentence for drug crimes and the severity of the victim's injuries."
C Jamm and the prosecution each appealed, citing unfair sentencing.
C Jamm is accused of getting into an altercation with the victim and punching the victim's face once at a club in Itaewon around 3 a.m. on December 9, 2018. At that time, the victim suffered a nasal bone fracture with a recovery period of 4 weeks.
The appellate court, like the original court, rejected C Jamm's claim that "it was self-defense because the victim first struck with a fist."
The court stated, "Considering that the assault on the victim was a single, impulsive act, that the defendant agreed to pay compensation to the victim, that the victim does not wish to press charges, and that aside from one suspended sentence for drug offenses, there is no other criminal record."
