Seoul Ethics Committee Held a Full Meeting on the 27th, Decided 'Employment Restriction' for Former Seoul Transportation Corporation Vehicle Headquarters Director Han Jae-hyun, President of Ui-Sinseol Light Rail Transit Operator... Seoul Transportation Corporation Executives Closely Monitoring Appointments to Related Companies, Drawing Attention
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seoul Metropolitan Government Public Officials Ethics Committee has opposed the appointment of Han Jae-hyun, former head of the Vehicle Headquarters at Seoul Transportation Corporation, as president of the Uisinseol Light Rail Transit operating company.
Former head Han of the Seoul Transportation Corporation Vehicle Headquarters applied for prior employment approval to the Seoul Ethics Committee in January before assuming the position.
However, on the 27th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government Public Officials Ethics Committee held an official meeting and issued a 'restriction on employment' decision, which effectively means 'opposition.'
This is intended to prevent public officials from immediately joining affiliated organizations or related companies after retirement, thereby blocking potential sharing of public office-related information and involvement in vested interests.
Accordingly, the government has enacted related laws that strictly regulate violations of this rule by imposing 'up to 2 years imprisonment or fines up to 20 million won.'
Additionally, it is known that the Seoul Metropolitan Government is closely monitoring cases where retired senior officials of Seoul Transportation Corporation have taken CEO positions at related companies, drawing attention.
In particular, Seoul Transportation Corporation has undergone a large-scale audit by the Seoul Metropolitan Government regarding the installation of bidirectional dust collectors in the subway, resulting in severe disciplinary actions including ▲a warning to the head of the institution ▲a request for investigation of the former head of the Technical Headquarters ▲a recommendation for dismissal of the mechanical director, along with the fatal accident of a disabled person at Bucheon Sangdong Station, highlighting the need for a thorough establishment of discipline.
