On the 28th, Governor Kim held a press conference at the county office and stated, "I deeply regret that our county was not included in the decision on the 3rd relocation site of the provincial public institutions."
Governor Kim said, "Our county is the only area recovered after the Korean War and has been a symbolic region that has made special sacrifices for the country for over 70 years," adding, "As a result, due to continuous underdevelopment, our actual financial independence rate is 12%, and with a population of 43,000, we rank lowest in Gyeonggi Province."
He continued, "During the local elections in June 2018, at a campaign event at Jeongok Terminal in Yeoncheon, Governor Lee Jae-myung first expressed the provincial government philosophy by saying, 'Special compensation for special sacrifices is fairness,' which raised great expectations among our residents for this public institution relocation."
Furthermore, he emphasized, "Looking at the recent relocation decision, it seems that existing infrastructure development and transportation accessibility were prioritized over 'special compensation for special sacrifices' and 'regional balanced development,' which is very disappointing. Moving forward, there should be more policy consideration for these aspects."
Governor Kim especially stated, "Since the opening of Yeoncheon-gun, local residents, organizations, and even youth united in one will to collect signatures, showing a passion and earnestness not seen in other cities and counties, which makes it even more regrettable. I feel sorry that we were not finally selected."
