Ministry of Science and ICT Holds First Telecommunications Disaster Management Deliberation Committee Meeting of the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 28th that it held the first Telecommunications Disaster Management Deliberation Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Deliberation Committee) meeting of the year.
The Ministry of Science and ICT reported to the Deliberation Committee the implementation status of the revised telecommunications disaster management plan from last year, confirmed by receiving performance data from major telecommunications operators. Network diversification was implemented in 49 additional cases beyond the original plan, taking measures at a total of 383 facilities. The diversification of power supply networks was carried out smoothly at the planned 23 A and B grade facilities. Installation of CCTV at entrances of critical telecommunications facilities, installation of locks and CCTV in underground telecommunications facilities were completed at all target facilities. However, regarding disaster response personnel or monitoring system operation, SK Broadband had insufficient disaster response personnel operation at 10 facilities after merging with T-Broad, but this was completed during the corrective action period.
In this year's amendment to the basic telecommunications disaster management plan, changes were reflected such as the approval of SK Broadband's acquisition of SK Telink's fixed-line telecommunications business (internet phone, long-distance phone) and the merger with T-Broad leading to network optimization, as well as the grade changes of critical telecommunications facilities due to KT's establishment of the Yongsan Internet Data Center (IDC).
Additionally, in the guidelines for establishing next year's basic telecommunications disaster management plan, due to changes in the telecommunications environment such as the increase in 5G subscribers, the number of 5G base stations will be included in the grade designation criteria, and submission of the number of base stations by technology type was supplemented. The management level of telecommunications facilities will be strengthened by including the 'telecommunications duct management plan,' inspection plans according to the revised 'Firefighting Facilities Act,' and plans for reinforcing firefighting facilities.
