Minister Jeong Young-ae of the Ministry of Gender Equality meets with women’s organization leaders to gather opinions on gender equality policies

On the afternoon of the 24th, Minister Jeong met with 10 organization heads, including Heo Myung, President of the Korean Council of Women’s Organizations, Kim Min-moon-jeong, Representative of the Korean Women’s Associations United, Kwon Soo-hyun, Representative of the Gender Politics Research Institute Yeoseyeon, and Song Ran-hee, Representative of Korea Women’s Hotline, at the State Council Members’ Cafeteria in the Government Seoul Office.
During the meeting, they reviewed major policy achievements such as expanding women’s advancement to decision-making positions in the public and private sectors, establishing measures to eradicate digital sex crimes, strengthening the foundation for preventing violence against women and supporting victims, and discussed future tasks. Each organization head also presented their opinions on current issues in the women’s community.
Kim Min-moon-jeong, Representative of the Korean Women’s Associations United, emphasized the need for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s active role regarding women’s jobs and care issues related to COVID-19. Heo Myung, President of the Korean Council of Women’s Organizations, stressed the realization of equal pay for equal work, and Jeong Yoon-sook, President of the Korean Women Entrepreneurs Association, highlighted the necessity of employment support policies for women in their 20s and 30s and women who have experienced career interruptions.
They shared various opinions including strengthening victim support related to the enactment of the Stalking Punishment Act, establishing a gender equality data accumulation and utilization system related to technology development such as artificial intelligence (AI), expanding women’s participation in central and local politics, increasing the proportion of female professors in national and public universities, and reinforcing the linkage of gender equality policies between central and local governments.

Minister Jeong said, "Although there have been achievements such as improved women’s representation in our society and strengthened policies to eradicate violence against women, women still raise safety concerns in their daily lives, and differences in awareness of gender equality remain a task to be resolved. We will continue to communicate steadily with policy sites and related organizations and carefully consider the opinions of the public to do our best to make our society safer and more gender-equal."
