Earlier, the district judged that a long-term urban plan is necessary to contemplate and create the future of the region together with residents, and in August last year, it initiated the establishment and research of the ‘Jongno Urban Master Plan 2100.’
The Urban Master Plan 2100, which is being promoted across all administrative districts within the region, is a ‘comprehensive plan that serves as the basis for policy planning in all fields.’ It broadly covers the physical spatial aspects reflecting regional characteristics (land, housing, transportation, infrastructure, etc.) and non-physical aspects (economy, industry, environment, energy, society, culture, welfare, etc.).
The district aims to set visions and strategies to prepare for Jongno’s next 100 years by operating the resident participation group to collect diverse opinions from all walks of life.
The resident participation group consists of 235 members from 17 administrative neighborhoods who know the current status and realities of Jongno best. It includes resident autonomy committees, local organizations, experts, and general residents evenly.
Since June 3rd, the participants have been engaging in a total of three deliberation sessions at the neighborhood community centers until June 11th, discovering local resources and identifying current issues together with experts (facilitators), while offering various opinions.
The deliberation process proceeds in the order of ▲ understanding and publicizing the Jongno Urban Master Plan 2100 ▲ setting the future vision of Jongno-gu and deriving planning tasks ▲ selecting key issues for each planning task and discussing promotion strategies. The district plans to listen sincerely to the proposals of the resident participation group and reflect them as core goals and strategies of the Jongno Urban Master Plan in the future.
Since holding the kickoff meeting for the Urban Master Plan 2100 in October 2020, Jongno-gu has held bi-monthly working-level meetings and, since February this year, has held neighborhood meetings to identify major local issues by region.
In addition, in March, the district shared major plans and project statuses by related departments, striving to build a foundation to lead Jongno’s century-long future.
