Lego Releases Rainbow-Colored Products Symbolizing LGBTQ+... Gender Hard to Guess
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Major toy manufacturers around the world are consecutively releasing products themed around LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and other sexual minorities).
CNN reported on the 20th (local time) that "Danish toy company LEGO will unveil a product called 'We Are All Amazing' themed around LGBT+ in early June."
Inspired by the rainbow, a symbol of sexual minorities, this product consists of 346 pieces and 11 figures. The figures are made in a total of 11 colors including the seven colors of the rainbow as well as pink, white, sky blue, black, and brown.
The British daily The Guardian explained that sky blue, white, and pink represent transgender people, while black and brown symbolize racial diversity. Matthew Ashton, the LEGO designer who created this product, stated, "I wanted to create a product that symbolizes inclusivity," explaining the background of its creation.
This is not the first time toys breaking away from traditional gender concepts have been released. American company Mattel, the manufacturer of Barbie dolls, released a gender-neutral doll in 2019. This assembly-type doll allows users to choose the hair, clothing, and race. It includes short haircuts, sportswear, and jeans, making it difficult to guess the gender depending on the combination.
