Cyworld 'Revival' Delayed Again... "Reopening in July"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The revival of the Cyworld service, which was scheduled for the 25th, has been postponed once again. This is the second delay following the initial announcement of a March revival earlier this year, which was then postponed to May.
According to industry sources on the 21st, Cyworld Z, the operator holding the rights to Cyworld, has recently postponed the service launch target date to July.
Since acquiring the Cyworld service in January this year, Cyworld Z has been preparing for its reopening.
However, it has been reported that the restoration time is being delayed due to the existing Cyworld customer information, photo, and video storage servers exceeding their normal durability lifespan, combined with security issues during the backup process.
A Cyworld Z official stated, "Even with about 100 developers working on restoring 18 billion customer photos, 150 million videos, and converting 11 million music files from low to high quality, there was a limit to how much the time could be shortened."
Currently, they are working on integrating data center servers, which are separated between SK Telecom and KT, and migrating them to the cloud. They are also simultaneously obtaining Information Security Management System-Personal Information Protection (ISMS-P) certification.
