Gangwon Police Expand Investigation Targets on 'Speculation Suspicions'... 22 Public Officials Included

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] As the Gangwon Police expand their comprehensive investigation into real estate speculation allegations within Gangwon Province, the number of suspects, including public officials, under investigation is gradually increasing.
On the 20th, the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency announced, "We are currently investigating or conducting preliminary inquiries into 14 public officials involved in 14 suspected speculation cases within Gangwon Province, 3 employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), 2 corporations, and 3 civilians."
As a result, the number of public officials and others under investigation has increased from 19 to 22, and the number of preliminary and formal investigations has risen from 11 to 14.
The leads for the investigations include 7 intelligence reports, 4 reports from the National Police Agency's reporting center, 1 report from the Gangwon Police Agency's reporting center, and 2 investigation requests.
The police plan to send Jeon Chang-beom, former Yanggu County Governor, who was previously detained, to the prosecution on the 21st on charges of violating the Act on the Prevention of Corruption and the Establishment and Operation of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
The court accepted the police's pre-indictment seizure preservation request to prevent Mr. Jeon from arbitrarily disposing of the land.
