Japanese Version of Gumiho Movie 'Seolnyeo' Reborn as a Play in Daehangno
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The film Snow Woman, which was released in Japan in 2013, will be presented on the domestic theater stage.
Just as Korea has the nine-tailed fox (Gumiho), the Snow Woman is one of the yokai appearing in Japanese folklore and legends. It is said that on days with heavy snowfall, she lures travelers to lose their way and freezes them to death.
The play "Snow Woman" takes the motif of the Snow Woman into everyday situations and symbolically deals with human duality, the conflict between two selves within, and the struggle with cold truths.
"Snow Woman" is a work by writer and director Kim Yongseon, who published the play collection "The Devil Collects Monthly Rent." He personally directed the play, aesthetically expressing his imaginative creative world.
Coincidentally, this play, which begins its run alongside the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement anniversary, tells a story that takes place in an ordinary family but is not unrelated to the issues of truth faced by our society and reality.
The lead role of "Snow Woman" is played by actors Lee Ha-eun and Seo Yoon. Yoon Guk-ro plays the male protagonist "Giho," who is at the center of the conflict. Sa Hye-jin portrays Giho's wife "Inhye," and Kim Yu-rim plays their daughter "Nakyung." Musical actors Kim Yu-joo and Kim Ga-bin appear as the "Snow Woman image."
