Criticism Over Selection of Spouse-Owned Company by Buk-gu Office Officials in Business Environment Improvement Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Gidae Seo, a member of the Buk-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Jungheung 1, 2, 3-dong, Sinan-dong, Im-dong, Jungang-dong), called for ensuring the effectiveness of support policies for self-employed and small business owners and the fairness of the selection process for beneficiary companies during the 269th extraordinary session's district administration questions on the 12th.
Councilor Gidae Seo pointed out the lack of promotion, saying, "Last year, only 73 applications were submitted for the small business management environment improvement project supported by district funds, although there are thought to be thousands of small business owners and self-employed in Buk-gu."
Regarding the selection of a company operated by the spouse of a current public official as a beneficiary, he said, "Regardless of qualifications, it is inappropriate for public officials to apply for support projects during a national disaster situation," and urged, "Please take the lead in fostering a clean public service culture."
