[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea dropped to the 400s for the first time in a week due to a decrease in testing over the weekend.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) reported that as of midnight on the 3rd, 488 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 123,728. Of these, 465 were locally transmitted cases and 23 were imported cases. However, the number of suspected case tests conducted that day was 17,092, and the number of tests at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area was 13,082, totaling about 30,000 tests. At the metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 62 confirmed cases were identified.
By region, in the metropolitan area, Seoul reported 123 cases, Gyeonggi 129 cases, and Incheon 14 cases. In non-metropolitan areas, Gyeongnam reported 44 cases, Gyeongbuk 31, Jeonnam 24, Ulsan 21, Busan 16, Jeonbuk 12, Chungnam and Daegu 10 each, Gangwon and Chungbuk 9 each, Gwangju and Daejeon 5 each, and Sejong 3. No new cases were reported in Jeju.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by one from the previous day to 1,834. The number of critically ill patients decreased by six to 164. The number of patients who have recovered and been released from isolation increased by 491 to 113,356.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced that as of midnight, 1,561 people received their first dose, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 3,396,864. AstraZeneca vaccine recipients total 1,829,737, and Pfizer vaccine recipients total 1,567,127. Additionally, 301 people received their second dose, bringing the cumulative total to 236,489.

The number of suspected adverse reactions reported after COVID-19 vaccination increased by 121 from the previous day, totaling 16,627 cases. Among the newly reported adverse reactions, three were deaths. The rest were mild symptoms such as muscle pain and headaches.
