One Case of Illegal Capture and Distribution of Young Squid Detected Last Month... "Continuous Crackdown"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 2nd that, as a result of a joint crackdown with related agencies last month on violations of the strengthened closed season and minimum size regulations for spear squid starting this year, one case was detected.
The detected company was confirmed to have stored and sold illegally caught juvenile spear squid in the Guryongpo area of Gyeongbuk. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to conduct further investigations, including identifying fishermen who illegally caught juvenile squid.
Additionally, this month, joint guidance and crackdowns with related agencies will continue, focusing on violations of the spear squid minimum size regulation, which prohibits catching squid with a body length of 15 cm or less, and bycatch rate violations.

Last month, the Ministry deployed 390 fisheries supervisory officials from central and local governments and about 390 fisheries patrol vessels to conduct crackdowns at 13 fish markets in Gangwon, Gyeongsang, Jeonnam, and other regions where spear squid sales volume was high.
