[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Minister of Unification Lee In-young is reported to have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine last week. It appears to be in consideration of diplomatic activities through a visit to the United States following the South Korea-US summit.
A senior official from the Ministry of Unification told reporters on the 29th that the timing of the minister's possible trip to the US has not been determined, confirming the AZ vaccine inoculation.
The official stated, "President Moon, who is attending the summit, will be vaccinated first, followed by the Foreign Minister, and then Minister Lee," adding, "The vaccination process takes quite some time in relation to entry procedures in the US."

Meanwhile, on the same day, Minister Lee held a briefing for reporters at the Inter-Korean Summit Headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, stating that the upcoming South Korea-US summit next month should serve as an opportunity to accelerate the timetable of the 'Korean Peninsula peace process.' He also said he would support the activation of exchanges and contacts at the private and local government levels before the resumption of dialogue between the central governments of South and North Korea.
