Gwangju Office of Education Holds 'Parent Association' Briefing Session
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education held a total of eight parent association briefings, including evening sessions, from the 15th to the 28th to promote parental participation in schools.
According to the Office of Education on the 29th, the parent briefings were conducted by administrative district and school level to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Only the presidents of each school's parent association attended, and they listened to explanations about this year's policies, projects, and budget support related to parental school participation from the Office of Education, then exchanged opinions.
Subsequently, active Q&A sessions took place, which also served as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity between the Office of Education and the parent association presidents.
The briefing also examined the role of parents for future generations in the era of the climate crisis.
Efforts were made to raise parents' awareness of climate and environmental issues through parent association and club activities at each school.
Following last year, representatives for the operation of regional parent networks were also elected this year.
The regional parent network representatives establish parent contact networks for each school to gather parents' opinions.
They also play a role in proposing educational policies by sharing activity cases, communicating among parents, and listening to field opinions.
Direct communication between the Office of Education and parent associations is expected to reduce the burden on school teachers and enable projects to proceed effectively.
