54-Year-Old Woman Dies from Cerebral Thrombosis... 5 Side Effects Reported
Canadian Health Authorities... "Vaccination Recommendation Cannot Be Revised"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] Canada has reported its first death due to cerebral thrombosis as a side effect following vaccination with AstraZeneca (AZ) COVID-19 vaccine. So far, there have been five cases of thrombosis side effects reported after AZ vaccination in Canada, but Canadian health authorities are reportedly maintaining their stance not to halt vaccinations.
According to AFP and other foreign media on the 27th (local time), a 54-year-old woman residing in Quebec, Canada, died from cerebral thrombosis symptoms after receiving the AZ vaccine. This is the first death reported in Canada due to side effects from the AZ vaccine. To date, five cases of thrombosis side effects have been reported, and except for the woman who died on this day, all others have reportedly fully recovered.
Canadian health authorities have stated they will not stop vaccinations despite this death. Christian Dub?, Quebec’s Minister of Health, emphasized, "Severe adverse reactions may occur at a rate of one case per 100,000 doses," and added, "It should be remembered that more than 400,000 people in Quebec alone have received the AZ vaccine." Earlier, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) in Canada recommended on the 23rd that the AZ vaccine be used for those aged 30 and older, and Quebec has reportedly been administering the AstraZeneca vaccine to those aged 45 and above.

The AZ vaccine caused controversy as several European countries including Austria and Germany temporarily suspended its use following reports of thrombosis side effects. However, on the 23rd, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) reaffirmed its previous position that the benefits of AstraZeneca vaccination outweigh the risks, leading to the resumption of vaccinations in Europe and most other countries. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also received the AZ vaccine on the 23rd.
