Changwon City Leads 'Green Road Expedition' to Improve School Routes... 5.8 Billion Won Invested This Year
Green Umbrella and Civic Groups Conduct Joint Field Investigation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that it conducted an on-site survey of safety facilities and school routes around Hyeondong Elementary School, the target school for this year's Green Road Expedition, together with about 40 people including the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, parents, the education office, and civic groups.
The participants examined the overall conditions such as illegal advertisements attached to utility poles, sidewalk maintenance status, traffic light systems, and road environment, and shared issues that need improvement.
This year’s target schools for the Green Road Expedition are five elementary schools under Masanhappo-gu. The on-site survey started with Hyeondong Elementary School on this day, and in May, surveys are planned for Sanhocho, Wanwol Elementary, Happo Elementary, and Haeun Elementary.
Additionally, participation education will be conducted concurrently, including understanding children's rights for 5th and 6th graders at the schools, collecting students' opinions on school routes, and conducting on-site surveys of school routes with a children's representative group.
The 'Green Road Expedition' is a project to improve school routes that has been carried out since 2019 by a network of 16 organizations including Changwon City, the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, the education office, and civic groups. Up to last year, 12 schools have experienced changes in their school routes.

Meanwhile, the city is accelerating the creation of a child-centered traffic environment with a project budget of 5.8 billion KRW, increased by 3 billion KRW from last year, for installing unmanned traffic enforcement equipment, traffic signals, and smart safety facilities in child protection zones.
