Hyun Won-ha, Vice President of Hyundai Motor, "Staria to Lead Future Mobility" (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the new concept multipurpose vehicle (MPV) ‘Staria’ online for the first time in the world on the 13th.
On the same day, Hyundai held an online media briefing to reveal the Staria. The name Staria is a compound of “Star,” meaning star, and “Ria,” meaning wave, inspired by the exterior of a spaceship floating among the stars.
Hyundai Motor Vice President Wonha Yoo said, “Future vehicles must be versatile during both movement and stationary periods, focusing on enhancing the value of customers’ time. Staria emphasizes transforming the customer’s mobility experience.”
Staria is offered in two lineups according to usage: the premium passenger model ‘Staria Lounge’ and the standard model ‘Staria.’ The Staria Lounge comes in 7- and 9-seat configurations, while the Staria offers seats arranged for various customer purposes, including Tourer (9- and 11-seat) and Cargo (3- and 5-seat) versions.
Vice President Yoo stated, “Staria targets active families who enjoy lively leisure activities as well as owner-driver customers who conduct business directly. We will especially focus on the passenger MPV market centered on the Lounge model.”
Staria is the first model to apply Hyundai’s future mobility design theme, ‘Inside Out.’ Inside Out is a concept that extends the spaciousness and openness of interior design to the exterior.
Hyundai Motor Executive Director in charge of design, Sangyeop Lee, emphasized, “Staria completes a futuristic mobility image harmonizing a spacious interior and openness with a sleek curved exterior reminiscent of a spaceship. We pursued maximization of space within limited dimensions.”
In particular, the front of the premium Staria Lounge features a three-dimensional mesh pattern grille and headlamps and turn signals composed of eight ice cube-type full LEDs, evoking constellations. The rear applies a parametric pixel design LED rear combination lamp and a lamp-shaped garnish on top, giving a high-tech impression.
Generous Interior Space Also a Strength, Sales Begin on the 15th
Staria’s high overall height (1990mm), wide overall width (1995mm), and long overall length (5255mm) secure ample interior space, which is another advantage. Additionally, by applying a low ground clearance to the high overall height, the maximum interior height reaches 1379 millimeters (mm), allowing for maximized space over 1 meter (m).
It also boasts premium lounge-exclusive seats, advanced driver assistance systems beyond its class, and best-in-class boarding convenience technologies, offering top-tier product quality. The premium 7-seat Staria Lounge features premium relaxation seats that allow passengers to recline comfortably, providing a comfort akin to being in a zero-gravity space, according to the company.
The 9-seat Staria Lounge’s second row is equipped with swiveling seats that rotate 180 degrees. These swiveling seats create an environment where passengers in the second and third rows can face each other and converse during travel, enabling simple meetings inside the vehicle.
Hyundai will begin full-scale sales of Staria from the 15th. From that day, active marketing activities will start alongside the Next Mobility Life advertising campaign showcasing new mobility experiences through Staria.
Staria’s basic selling price is set between 27.26 million KRW (diesel, Cargo 3-seat base) and 41.35 million KRW (Staria Lounge 7-seat base), differentiated by design and specifications according to usage purposes.
