SKT's 'JumpAR' Launches in North American App Markets... Unveils 'Digital Faker'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] SK Telecom announced on the 12th that it has officially launched its augmented reality (AR) service platform, ‘Jump AR,’ on the Google Play Store in the United States and is introducing new AR-based digital human content featuring the world-renowned pro gamer ‘Faker’ Lee Sang-hyeok.
This marks the first time an AR application operated by a domestic telecommunications company has entered the North American app market. It is the second global expansion achievement following Hong Kong at the end of last year. It is expected to serve as an important milestone for further global market expansion.
Accordingly, people residing in the United States will now be able to fully enjoy Korea’s mixed reality content through SK Telecom’s Jump AR app. SK Telecom expects that Faker’s digital character, who has a worldwide fandom, will have a positive impact on Jump AR’s entry into the U.S. market. Additionally, the company plans to accelerate its global expansion by soon launching the ‘Jump Virtual Meetup’ app and expanding the release of Jump services to other global app markets.
The Faker content unveiled on this day was produced at Jump Studio, SK Telecom’s mixed reality content production center, based on volumetric video capture technology. Fans can summon the digital Faker anytime and anywhere, place him in their desired location, and capture moments together through photos or other means to share on social media. This type of digital human content is expected to establish a new communication method between stars and fans by allowing fans to collect various appearances of their favorite stars or celebrities as AR content.
