'Incheon Political Elder' Former National Assembly Member Seo Jeong-hwa Passes Away at 82 Years Old
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Junhyung] Seo Jeonghwa, a senior figure in Incheon politics and former National Assembly member, passed away on the morning of the 10th due to a long illness. He was 82 years old.
Former Assemblyman Seo was born in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province. He graduated from Incheon High School and the Korea Military Academy. After serving 15 years in the military, he retired as an Army Lieutenant Colonel in 1978.
He was elected as a national representative in the 12th general election in 1985. He belonged to the Democratic Justice Party, the ruling party during the Chun Doo-hwan administration. He achieved four terms by consecutively winning the 13th, 14th, and 15th general elections in the constituency centered around Jung-gu and Dong-gu in Incheon.
In 1998, when the Kim Dae-jung administration began, he joined the National Congress for New Politics and was appointed as vice chairman. He ran for a fifth term in the 16th general election in 2000 but was defeated.
He is survived by his wife, Jeong Cheongja, and three sons.

The funeral is being held at Inha University Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 3. The funeral procession will be at 7 p.m. on the 12th. The burial site is the National Seoul National Cemetery.
