Chairman Kim In-ho of Seoul Metropolitan Council Criticizes Distorted Articles on Seoul City Employees' COVID-19 Response Encouragement Message
Seoul Metropolitan Council Chairman Kim In-ho's Rebuttal on Facebook on the 9th Regarding Criticism in Some Media of His Email to Seoul City Employees on the 8th Draws Attention
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Amid criticism from some media outlets regarding an email sent by Kim In-ho, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, to Seoul city employees on the 8th, Chairman Kim drew attention by posting a rebuttal on his Facebook page on the 9th.
Chairman Kim began by saying, “I leave this message with a sense of regret as I feel my true intentions were misunderstood. From early on, there were suggestions from Seoul city officials and those around me that it would be good to offer some encouragement and consolation to our Seoul city employees who have worked hard in response to COVID-19.”
He added, “Personally, I have witnessed the city officials working hard alongside the acting mayor during the not-so-short nine-month vacancy of the mayor’s office, and I was also grateful for their active cooperation in various legislative situations, including the administrative audit. After the hard work, a new mayor has arrived, so my intention was to ask them to work well together to carry out new city administration for the citizens going forward.”
Chairman Kim stated, “As the representative of the council, the deliberative body for 10 million citizens, I sent the email with requests and encouragement. Since this is a time of confusion and anxiety, I emphasized ‘restoration of people’s livelihood’ and ‘stable city administration’ on behalf of our citizens,” and criticized, “However, I feel regretful that some media outlets have distorted my true intentions and reported them inaccurately.”
He continued, “I hope you understand my true intention to have the executive branch and the council join forces to move forward with sincere policies for the 10 million citizens,” and posted the full text of the email.
