DGB Daegu Bank, Face Authentication Non-Face-to-Face Real-Name Verification Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] DGB Daegu Bank announced that starting from the 6th, it will offer the first bank industry service for account opening through non-face-to-face real-name verification using facial recognition, enhancing customer convenience with a simple procedure and differentiated electronic finance fraud prevention.
In May of last year, DGB Daegu Bank was designated by the Financial Services Commission as an innovative financial service for its non-face-to-face real-name verification service utilizing facial recognition technology.
Previously, non-face-to-face account opening required capturing an ID card photo followed by account verification or video calls with the Non-face-to-face Real-name Verification Center to confirm that the ID photo matched the face, which imposed restrictions based on account ownership and the center's operating hours.

The system compares and verifies about 16,000 feature points between the authenticated ID photo and the user's directly captured face. It applies a liveness detection function that distinguishes a real face from photos or videos during selfie capture, which is expected to contribute to preventing financial fraud such as identity theft.
