Police Officer in 40s Booked for Leaving Scene After Collision While Intoxicated

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A man in his 40s who caused a traffic accident while driving under the influence on the highway and continued driving without taking any action was caught by the police.
The Seocho Police Station in Seoul announced on the 5th that they have booked and are investigating Mr. A (49) on charges of drunk driving and dangerous driving causing injury under the Road Traffic Act.
Mr. A is accused of colliding with the vehicle in front of him around 10:45 p.m. on the 2nd while driving on the northbound Gyeongbu Expressway between Seocho IC and Banpo IC. After drinking in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, he was returning home to Seocho-dong when he changed lanes and hit the right rear part of the vehicle ahead with the left front bumper of his car. Both drivers were reported to have sustained minor injuries from the accident.
Mr. A left the scene immediately after the accident without taking any action, and the driver of the damaged vehicle honked and chased him, eventually seeking help from a police officer patrolling from the Seocho 2 Police Substation.

The police apprehended Mr. A near an elementary school in Seocho-dong around 11 p.m. on the day of the incident. His blood alcohol concentration was 0.127%, well above the license cancellation threshold of 0.08%. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident with Mr. A.
