[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] A man in his 50s who stabbed his wife multiple times for refusing to have sexual relations received a reduced sentence in the appellate court.
The Jeonju District Court Criminal Division 3 (Presiding Judge Go Sanggyo) overturned the original sentence of 2 years imprisonment and sentenced A (53) to 1 year imprisonment on appeal for charges of aggravated assault.
A was charged with injuring his foreign wife B by repeatedly stabbing her with a weapon at their home in Buan-gun, Jeonbuk, around 11:40 p.m. on October 25 last year.
At the time, A, who came home intoxicated, demanded sexual relations from B, who was in the living room, but when she refused, he brought a weapon and interrogated her saying, "Isn't it because you had sexual relations with someone else?" and "Admit you had sexual relations with someone else, or I will kill you."
B denied, saying, "That is not true," but A stabbed B multiple times with the weapon.
A was caught after a resident who witnessed B barely escaping outside the house reported to the police.
B was confirmed to have sustained injuries requiring four weeks of medical treatment.
The first trial court sentenced A to imprisonment, stating, "The victim suffered severe injuries to her hands and arms due to this crime," but A appealed citing unfair sentencing.
