With this, Gyeongbuk Province will once again hold a massive global music festival featuring top-tier artists representing K-POP and Asia in Gyeongju, following the event in 2020. The national government support fund for the event is 500 million KRW.
The reason for being selected for two consecutive years in this contest is largely attributed to the successful hosting of the '2020 Asia Song Festival,' which was held for the first time in Korea using a global ontact method, according to Gyeongbuk Province's self-assessment.
Since its first event in Seoul in 2004, the Asia Song Festival has been held annually with national government support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to promote cultural exchange among Asian countries and the spread of K-POP.
Last year, amid a situation where large-scale concerts were being canceled one after another due to COVID-19, and it was uncertain whether the Asia Song Festival could be held, Gyeongbuk Province was praised for leading a success story as a global music festival combined with advanced ICT technology.
The performance held on October 10th last year at the special stage of Gyeongju Tower in Gyeongju Expo Park was vividly delivered worldwide through YouTube and Naver V-Live channels, achieving 5.5 million live viewers and 22 million cumulative views.
Gyeongbuk Province and the Korea International Cultural Exchange Promotion Agency plan to prepare again this year using the ontact method as a principle and will decide on allowing audience attendance within a limited scope depending on changes in circumstances such as the formation of herd immunity in the second half of the year.
