Police Investigation of Abandonment and Abuse Perpetrators
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A living Maltese puppy was found inside a waste volume-based garbage bag in a redevelopment area in Incheon, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
On the 29th, the Bupyeong Police Station in Incheon announced that they are investigating the perpetrator who abandoned and abused the Maltese, following a request from Bupyeong District.
The Maltese was found on the afternoon of the 18th around 3 PM in a redevelopment area in Sipjeong-dong, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, inside a waste volume-based garbage bag. At the time of discovery, the Maltese was alive but showed symptoms of starvation and dehydration and was reportedly unable to walk properly.
A passerby who saw this called the fire department for rescue, and the fire authorities who responded rescued the Maltese and handed it over to the Bupyeong District Animal Protection Center.
Bupyeong District stated that the Maltese, estimated to be five years old, was not only abandoned but also believed to have been abused regularly, and requested the police to investigate the abuser.
The police are tracking the person who abandoned the animal. A police official said, "We have not yet found the person who abandoned the Maltese. The investigation request came in on the 23rd, and we are currently reviewing nearby CCTV footage."
Previously, animal abandonment was subject to a fine, but since last month, the law has changed to impose a fine of up to 3 million won.
