Yeongcheon City Opens Family-Oriented Leisure Sports 'Ground Golf Course'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Dongwook Park] Yeongcheon City, Gyeongbuk Province (Mayor Ki-moon Choi) announced on the 29th that it held an opening ceremony on the 26th for a family-type leisure sports facility, a ground golf course, located in the Geumnodong area.
Yeongcheon City invested 700 million KRW (147 million KRW from the national government, 210 million KRW from the provincial government, and 343 million KRW from the city) and started construction in September last year. By the end of last year, it expanded the 6,200㎡ stadium and completed the installation of auxiliary facilities.
Ground golf is a newly modified sport combining golf and gateball. It is a game where players roll a ball into a hole using a wooden club similar to a golf club. It is easy for anyone to enjoy together without burden, and it has become especially popular as a leisure sport among the elderly.
Mayor Ki-moon Choi said, "With the completion of the exclusive ground golf stadium, we expect it to revitalize the daily lives of citizens exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and greatly contribute to diversifying and expanding the base of community sports."
