Local Government Secures Expertise in Traffic Safety, Receives 'Excellent' Evaluation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, recorded an A grade, ranking in the top 10% for two consecutive years in the Traffic Culture Index evaluation.
On the 26th, the county announced that it ranked 4th among all gun areas nationwide and 1st within Gyeongnam Province in the "2020 Traffic Culture Index Survey" conducted by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, which surveyed 229 cities, counties, and districts across the country.
The Traffic Culture Index quantifies the level of awareness regarding traffic safety. It consists of three categories: driving behavior (55 points), pedestrian behavior (20 points), and traffic safety (25 points), with a total of 18 evaluation indicators.
The index is calculated by classifying regions into four groups: cities with populations over 300,000, cities with populations under 300,000, gun areas, and autonomous districts.
In the evaluation results, the county received a perfect score in the "Securing Local Government Traffic Safety Expertise" indicator under the traffic safety category, ranking first within its group. It also achieved a perfect score in the "Number of Traffic Accident Deaths per Number of Commercial Vehicles and Road Length" indicator in the same category, securing first place within the group.
Additionally, the county obtained excellent results in the "Local Government Commercial Vehicle Safety Management Level" and "Degree of Implementation of Regional Traffic Safety Policies" indicators within the same category.
