[Asia Economy Heo Midam reporter] The police investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, have launched search and seizure operations at about 170 nearby obstetrics and gynecology clinics to verify whether the biological mother, Seok (48), was pregnant and gave birth.
The Gumi Police Station in Gyeongbuk revealed on the 23rd that they are conducting search and seizure operations targeting more than 170 obstetrics and gynecology clinics in Daegu, Gumi, Gimcheon, Chilgok, and other areas to confirm non-reimbursed medical treatments.
The police believe that Seok gave birth to the deceased girl between January and March 2018. Accordingly, they are reviewing obstetrics and gynecology medical records, considering the possibility that the treatment might have been conducted under someone else's name during that period. They are also questioning people around Seok to find the biological father of the deceased girl, investigating men who dated Seok 3 to 5 years ago.
However, the police report that Seok changed her mobile phone device at the end of last year, which has caused difficulties in the investigation. Although they secured one year’s worth of call records through a search and seizure of the telecommunications company, they have not obtained records from 3 to 5 years ago, which are necessary for the investigation.
The police stated, "If we had Seok's old mobile phone device, we could secure past call records and text messages, but since we have not obtained it, the investigation is challenging."
