According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 23rd, Governor Lee met with Son Myung-soo, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and strongly requested that the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line (Seodaegu Gyeongbu Line ~ Integrated New Airport ~ Uiseong Jungang Line) be prioritized as a general railway project in the 4th National Railway Network Plan.
This visit by Governor Lee to the Sejong Government Complex follows his meeting with Minister Byeon Chang-heum of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 18th, and Gyeongbuk Province explained that it expresses a strong will to put the integrated new airport construction project, the province’s top priority issue, on the fast track.
Governor Lee emphasized, "The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line not only serves as a trunk railway line that disperses traffic from the Gyeongbu Line and connects to the Jungang Line, but it is also a crucial axis for the integrated new airport to successfully leap forward as a central regional hub airport. Since it is a project linked to the relocation of the K-2 military airport under the Special Act on Military Airport Relocation, it must be prioritized as a general railway project constructed entirely with national funds."
He also called on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to play a role in passing the preliminary feasibility study for the inland railway section between Mungyeong and Gimcheon, which is a disconnected segment between the Jungbu Inland Line (Suseo~Mungyeong) and the Nambu Inland Line (Gimcheon~Geoje), projects selected for the 2019 preliminary feasibility study but whose implementation has not yet been confirmed.
Regarding the double-tracking of the last single-track section of the entire Jungang Line (323.4 km) from Cheongnyangni to Singyeongju, specifically the Andong~Yeongcheon section (71.3 km), he urged active consideration of external factors such as the confirmed promotion of double-tracking for the Suseo~Gwangju and Yeoju~Wonju sections. He stressed the need to promote double-tracking of the entire section including Andong~Yeongcheon by the opening date at the end of 2022.
To build a road network linked to the integrated new airport, he also requested that the expansion of the Jungang Expressway from Eupnae Junction to Uiseong Interchange (40.0 km), along with 9 routes totaling 684.2 km, be included in the 2nd Five-Year Expressway Construction Plan. Additionally, regarding the 5th Five-Year National and Local Road Construction Plan, he asked that as many project districts as possible be reflected to expand roads and improve hazardous sections.
