Court Suspends Travel Ban on Kazem, President of Korea GM... Extension of Period Enforcement Suspension 'Approved'
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] The travel ban on Kaher Kazem, President of Korea GM (GM) (51), who is on trial for illegally dispatching workers (violation of the Act on the Protection of Dispatched Workers), has been suspended by the court.
According to the legal community on the 22nd, Shin Myung-hee, Chief Judge of the Administrative Division 2 of the Seoul Administrative Court, approved the injunction application on the 'extension of the travel ban period' filed by President Kazem against the Minister of Justice on the 16th.
Chief Judge Shin ruled, "The respondent (Minister of Justice)'s decision on January 13 to extend the travel ban period for the applicant (President Kazem) from January 21 to April 20 shall have its effect suspended until the day 30 days after the judgment on the cancellation of the travel ban extension by this court is announced."
Chief Judge Shin explained the reason, "According to the evidence submitted by the applicant, there is a concern that irreparable damage may occur to the applicant due to the extension of the travel ban period, and there is an urgent need to suspend the effect of the decision to prevent this. On the other hand, the materials submitted by the respondent alone are insufficient to recognize that suspending the effect would seriously affect public welfare."
The Ministry of Justice reportedly filed an immediate appeal on the 19th in disagreement with the court's decision. However, even if an immediate appeal is filed, it cannot suspend the effect of the court's injunction decision, so President Kazem is now able to leave the country.
