Park Beom-gye "Exercise of investigation command authority... Not to 'save Han Myeong-sook'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice, said on the 19th that the exercise of investigative command authority regarding the alleged perjury obstruction in the case of former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook was not intended as a 'rescue of Han Myeong-sook.'
On his way home from the Ministry of Justice Gwacheon office in the afternoon, Minister Park told reporters, "It is not in that dimension, as Kim Jong-min, the Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, said." At the Supreme Council meeting, Kim said, "Some media and prosecutors distort this issue as 'saving Han Myeong-sook,' but that is not true at all," adding, "This case is an important matter to restore the nation's trust and should be judged fairly and impartially in court."
When asked whether he would accept any conclusion reached at the expanded meeting of the Deputy Prosecutor General and High Prosecutors General reviewing the perjury obstruction case, Minister Park avoided a direct answer, saying, "I have not thought about it yet. I need to see the results first." Earlier, on the 17th, Lee Jeong-su, Director of the Ministry of Justice's Prosecution Bureau, stated in a briefing, "The minister's position is not about whether to indict or not, but to ask for a reconsideration," and said that if the Deputy Prosecutor General's meeting concludes no charges, Minister Park would also accept that.

Regarding the ongoing expanded meeting of the Deputy Prosecutor General and High Prosecutors General, Minister Park said, "I have no information at all," and added, "What I valued was the process, so I need to find out how the discussion process went." The 'process' Minister Park referred to means how "weightily" the opinions of Han Dong-su, Director of the Inspection Department, and Im Eun-jeong, Inspection Policy Research Officer, were considered during the meeting. Earlier, when exercising the investigative command authority, Minister Park instructed to listen to the explanations of the matter from Director Han and Research Officer Im and to have sufficient discussions.
