Selection of 20 Low-Income Freshmen at Seoul Universities Needing Early Social Settlement Support
5 Million Won Annually for 2 Years for Freshmen in First Semester of First Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Scholarship Foundation, Doosan, and Baboeui Nanum announced on the 19th that they will select 20 low-income college freshmen taking their first steps into society. The application period for the 'Youth Start Scholarship,' which provides up to 5 million KRW per student over two years as academic encouragement funds, is from the 19th to April 1st.
Applicants must be freshmen at universities located in Seoul who graduated from high school between December 2020 and February 2021. Eligible students include those from low-income households (basic livelihood security recipients, legally designated lower-income groups) or those currently residing in welfare facilities or who have a history of residence there during high school.
The application period is from 10 a.m. on the 19th until 5 p.m. on April 1st. Applications must be submitted online through the Seoul Scholarship Foundation website, followed by mailing the required documents.
The 20 selected scholarship recipients will receive a total of 100 million KRW, with 5 million KRW per person over two years. Additionally, they can participate in various programs such as mentoring with Doosan employees, volunteer activities, and meetings with seniors. The selection results will be announced at the end of May after document and interview evaluations.
Since 2013, the Seoul Scholarship Foundation, Doosan, and Baboeui Nanum have supported 155 vulnerable college freshmen with approximately 900 million KRW in donations from Doosan employees.
